Glass – 04. Tamron 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 | Test
Even in these moderate light conditions, the image is perfectly sharp from corner to corner, at 70mm and F4.0. What you will see in upcoming samples is that the lens manages to capture a very matte image. The light trap/black lining on the inside of the lens does a really good job and since it’s…

Glass – 04. Tamron 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 | Overview
70-300mm range gives some space for wildlife photography but on a full frame sensor, it won’t get a close photo of a bird more than 50m away which, in most instances is pretty useless. I use it mostly for travel photos and nature reserves. It’s flexible enough to get some portraits too. All that said,…

Glass – 03a. 2x Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Test
The clarity of the lens isn’t great. You can see that it looks hazy and the edges turn out quite soft. This is more obvious at the 80mm/160mm end (portrayed). At 28mm/56mm the lack of sharpness isn’t as obvious and not as important.

Glass – 03a. 2x Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Overview
Here’s a little bonus for the vivitar lens – a 2x teleconverter which gives the 28-80mm capability of shooting macro at 160mm which is pretty cool/different. Unfortunately the sharpness of the image is lost, especially around the edges. This is why I tend to use it solely on project where a rough look is acceptable.…

Glass – 03. Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Sample 3
Here the bokeh is round but it’s irregular enough not to distract from the subject. The depth of field is also shallow enough to separate the subject from the background which, for me, qualifies this lens as a good kit lens with a macro capability – can’t ask for much more, especially for the price!…

Glass – 03. Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Sample 2
Again, not a very sharp focus but a closer macro than from the Canon counterpart.

Glass – 03. Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Sample 1
The focus on the subject gets a little soft towards the top. What I do like is the odd, irregular bokeh on the leaves which would turn out much rounder on the 24-105mm Canon.

Glass – 03. Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Test
You can see that at the wide-end, this lens is clear and reasonably sharp. Photos from it won’t stop the press but they’re clear enough for me to use for video and on shoots.

Glass – 03. Vivitar 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 | Overview
The Vivitar 28-80mm is why I sold my Canon 24-105mm. The Canon lens was just a little unnecessary for me. Sure, autofocus is great, sharpness is pretty good (worse than the 100mm though!) and it’s a versatile focal range, but for the price – it really isn’t all that impressive. I got this lens for…

Glass – 02. Miranda 35-135mm F3.5 | Sample 3
Another example showing macro capability at wide focal lengths. You would be able to get a close up shot of the insect/subject as well as create an environment around it using a wider view of the background. This would work nicely in a field of poppies for example. //embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
